Overview

Earthtile aims to create the world's first distributed, peer to peer marketplace for rewarding ecosystem services stewardship.

Challenge

Government and corporate bodies stand as ineffective intermediaries that collect and allocate resources to environmental management. Currently, there is no simple, peer to peer system that allows people to invest directly in sustaining the ecosystems they depend on.

Solution

Earthtile uses Hedera to connect the producers of ecosystem stewardship directly with the people who consume these services through the creation of earthtiles–collectable digital assets representing verified, cryptographically secure, ecological data.

Earthtile removes the barriers to democratic participation in planetary earth care.

The earthtile mission is to create a marketplace that supports sustainable land managers and indigenous communities in the work they do stewarding and restoring natural environments. In order to achieve this goal, they want to enable everyone to participate by providing a mechanism for collaboration and transparency on a global scale.

Transparency, collaboration, and incentivization are common problems that a public distributed ledger can help solve to create a thriving marketplace. Earthtile’s marketplace consists of two sides. On the one hand, there are communities and families that steward natural systems all over the world who would love to be rewarded for it–in fact they need to be if they are going to be able to continue to do it– and on the other hand, there are people all over the world who would love to balance their relationship with these ecosystems and with these communities, but there is just no simple, engaging, and trusted way for them to make that investment.

Earthtiles are the collectable digital assets that make that possible. The earthtile solution relies on the possibility of creating a shared world by directly connecting hundreds of millions of sustainable land managers and indigenous land owners with billions of consumers looking for a simple and rewarding way to pay for, connect with, and invest in ecological stewardship. In order to do that earthtile measures and securely stores records of verified work undertaken in the stewardship and restoration of natural environments. These measurements are tokenized using the Hedera Token Service (HTS), Hedera Consensus Service (HCS) and Hedera Smart Contracts API to create collectable digital assets called earthtiles. Earthtiles earn rewards based on the quality of the stewardship of ecosystem services they represent.
