Hedera 20 – Hack the future

April 7, 2020
Hedera Team
Hedera
Hedera provides secure, scalable infrastructure for real-world decentralized applications in finance, AI, and sustainability, governed by global enterprises.

In Fall of 2018 we hosted Hedera’s first hackathon. Hedera18 provided a 3-day hack distributed across 8 cities around the globe. Hundreds of developers joined us, formed teams, fought through our early APIs, and created applications with some becoming the very first running on the Hedera mainnet today.

Now, we’re in a different world: The Hedera mainnet is live, having processed over 75,000,000 transactions to date; documentation and tooling is leaps and bounds above over 2018; and we’re facing a global pandemic.

As such, much like the Hedera network’s nodes plan to grow and increase decentralization so too will our hackathon participants. We’re leaning into this brave new world and moving beyond physical locations for the first virtual Hedera hackathon, Hedera20.

Starting today you’ll be able to sign up and grab your friends, colleagues, or form a new team on our hackathon platform to learn from scratch or put your skills to the test.

Hackathon Details

  • Registration Start / End: April 2nd, 2020 – June 11th, 2020
  • Hackathon Start / End: May 1st at 2:00pm PT – June 12th at 12:00pm PT (6 weeks)
  • Team Size: Up to 5 team members
  • Prizes: $35,000 worth of prizes including HBARs, acceptance into the MouseBelt accelerator program, and more!

Judges will include Dr. Leemon Baird, Chief Scientist and Co-Founder of Hedera Hashgraph, Bryan Gross, Principal Product Manager of IBM Blockchain Platform, Ankur Jindal, VP Global Head Corporate Venturing and Innovation of Tata Communications, as well as other representatives of the Hedera Governing Council.

Hackathon Challenge

The hackathon is prioritizing the use of the high-throughput, low-cost Hedera Consensus Service. Having launched in developer preview in February we’re in the early days of developers and entrepreneurs exploring the possibilities of this exciting new technology.

While you’re welcome to use any Hedera network service, the Hedera Consensus Service is well suited to take advantage of the most unique qualities of Hedera including: fair ordering, proving an action occurred, or providing real-time audit logs.

Register today to join educational sessions that will review the technology, use cases and implementation patterns. As with every hackathon, we will have plenty of mentors on hand to help with you any questions you may have, whether it be something technical or if you’re needing advice on your business plan, someone will be there to help.

We can’t wait to see the future you’ll build!
